Hot Springs Log Cabins are six miles south of Hot Springs, NC, on NC Highway 209, a North Carolina Scenic Byway. Our romantic mountain getaway cabins are "about an hour" from Asheville and The Biltmore, and a little over an hour to Cherokee. The Biltmore is in South Asheville, reached via Exit #50 from I-40. Our great little mountain getaway is located at "Bluff" on many maps, between The Smoky Mountains and The Blue Ridge Mountains. Directions and Groceries:
Generally, if you are coming from the North, you should go through either Greeneville or Newport, Tennessee, to Hot Springs, NC, and follow the directions from Hot Springs. Stop for groceries in Greeneville or Newport. If you are coming from Georgia or points West on 19/23/74, you will take exit #104 to NC 209 North. After heading North on 209 for a few miles you will pass over I-40 at exit #24 and follow the directions below from exit #24. There is a Food Lion and Walmart at exit #104. If you are coming from the East (Charlotte/Raleigh) or South East (South Carolina or Florida via I-26) you should get onto I-40 Westbound, to exit #24 (NC Highway 209) and follow the directions below from exit #24. From Hot Springs:
Take Scenic NC Highway 209 South from Hot Springs.
If you are coming in on 25/70 via Newport, you will turn right onto 209 at The BP station when you enter town. If you are arrving in Hot Springs on 25/70 from Marshall/Asheville, you will stay on 25/70 as it becomes "Bridge Street" for a few blocks then turns into 209. (To stay on 25/70 you would turn right at the BP station and head up the hill.)
This is a dramatic drive up the Spring Creek valley with pull-outs to admire the view. You will pass the Rocky Bluff Campground on your left. Hot Springs Log Cabins are located at 5830 Highway 209, which is on your right leading up the knoll. (Waldroup Road is 1/4 mile before our driveway and Gorenflo Gap Road is 1/2 mile past our driveway.)
If snow is likely, taking 25/70 from Asheville or Tennessee to Hot Springs, NC, and then following the above directions from Hot Springs will keep you at the lowest altitude and is the preferred route!
[From Asheville, take 240 to 19/23/26, then take exit 19A (25/70 direction Marshall) to Hot Springs, NC.]From I-40 (Westbound) or 19/23/74 or I-26 to I-40:
Take exit #24 (NC Highway 209) from I-40. The sign will say "Hot Springs". Groceries can be purchased at exit #44 or exit #31.
(Or take exit #104 from 19/23/74 to 209 North.)
8 miles north of I-40 you will bear right at Ferguson's General Store to stay on 209 North. Enjoy scenic 209 for another 22 miles as it takes you over Betsy's Gap and then through the flats of Spring Creek. 30 miles after leaving I-40 you will arrive at Hot Springs Log Cabins. We are located at 5830 Highway 209 which will be on your left, 1/2 mile past Gorenflo Gap Road. Due to the angle of our driveway it is best to continue past the entrance and turn around at Waldroup Road (1/4 mile beyond our driveway), so that you enter our property from the North.Please allow 45-60 minutes to reach
Hot Springs Log Cabins from I-40. Don't forget the groceries.Our curvy scenic roads are what draw many visitors to our area.
Please be aware however that the curves and scenery mean that you need to allow approximately an hour to travel 30 miles.
You will most enjoy your arrival if you plan it to occur during daylight hours.From I-40 (Eastbound):
Take exit #15 from I-40 (Fine's Creek Exit). You will stay on Fine's Creek Road for about 4 miles then turn right on Max Patch Road. Max Patch Road jogs over to Ferguson's General Store where you will turn left onto 209 North. Enjoy scenic 209 for 22 miles as it takes you over Betsy's Gap and then through the flats of Spring Creek. Leicester Highway (Highway 63) is reached via Patton Avenue in West Asheville. Stay on 63 over Doggett Mountain. Drive slowly and pay attention to the sharp switchbacks. (The passenger will be able to enjoy some fine views over the valley.) Highway 63 runs into Highway 209 at a beautiful and eccletic mountain homestead complete with a small chapel and "The Bridge of Madison County".
Turn north (right) onto 209 at this intersection and enjoy scenic 209 as it takes you through the flats of Spring Creek. Hot Springs Log Cabins are located at 5830 Highway 209 which will be on your left, 1/2 mile past Gorenflo Gap Road. Due to the angle of our driveway it is best to continue past the entrance and turn around at Waldroup Road (1/4 mile beyond our driveway), so that you enter our property from the North.Please allow 60 minutes to reach Hot Springs Log Cabins from Patton Avenue. There is a nice Ingle's grocery on Leicester Highway, shortly after you turn off Patton Ave.
For the Adventure Driver:
Take the Harmon Den Exit (#7) from I-40 near the Tennessee state line. 6 1/4 miles on Cold Springs Road (following Cold Springs Creek) will deliver you to Max Patch Road where you will turn left. Just after turning onto Max Patch Road you will make a hard right onto Little Creek Road. (If you continue on Max Patch Road you will arrive at Max Patch in 2 miles.) Follow Little Creek for 3 1/2 miles to Meadow Fork Road and turn left. Meadow Fork meanders 5 1/4 miles to 209 where you will turn left and find Hot Springs Log Cabins a mile further down the road. There is a BP station on Meadow Fork for gas and snacks. Please note that this route should only be attempted during good weather and daylight hours as the roads are dirt from I-40 to Meadowfork. It is, however, a gorgeous drive and a nice route to take if you were heading over to Gatlinburg to access the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail or go to Cade's Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
